Editorial standards
Petal Learn exists to help you understand your body with clear, accurate information. Here’s how we write, review and update every article.
Who writes our articles
Articles are written by the Petal team and reviewed by a clinician before they’re published. Each article names its writer and its medical reviewer, with links to their profiles.
Medical review
Every article is reviewed for accuracy by Zara Butte, MD, Petal’s head of clinical product and a board-certified internal medicine physician. A reviewer checks that the article reflects current evidence and that nothing in it overstates what the research shows.
How we choose sources
We rely on peer-reviewed research, clinical guidelines and established medical institutions. We cite our sources in each article, so you can read them yourself. When the research is early or mixed, we say so.
Keeping articles current
Research changes, and so do our articles. We review each one regularly and update it when new evidence matters. The “Last reviewed” date at the top of each article shows when it was last checked.
How we write
We write plainly, without hype or scare tactics. We treat weight and body fat as information, never as good or bad. We don’t make promises about results.
About Petal
We make Petal, a wearable built for women’s bodies, and some articles mention it where it’s relevant. Our editorial standards apply to every article, whether or not it mentions Petal.
Corrections
If you spot something that looks wrong or out of date, email us at hello@petal.today. We review every correction request and update articles when needed.
A note on our content
Petal Learn is for education. It isn’t a substitute for advice from your own doctor. If you have questions about your health, talk with a clinician who knows your history.
